Walking Out Cooler- And Smarter- By Adding This to Your Building Energy Audit
Track B: Data Analytics & Energy Services

Abstract:
Cold storage units are vital to the operations and occupant needs of roughly 29% of the commercial building stock in the US, including schools, hospitals, restaurants, and many others. Despite the criticality of the asset, cold storage systems are often overlooked in facility audits and retrofit evaluations. As a result, many building owners face inefficient systems, high energy costs, and an increased risk of spoilage—issues that can have significant, in some cases catastrophic, financial and operational consequences.
When assessing a building’s efficiency, cold storage must be a priority—not only for energy savings but also to mitigate risks for owners. This session will explore the power of refrigeration monitoring AND controls, demonstrating how their combined use can extend equipment life, reduce energy consumption, and prevent spoilage incidents. Attendees will gain an understanding of what to look for when auditing a cold storage system, either a walk-in or reach-in unit, the benefits of controlling the controller settings remotely, and the value of tracking the performance of all units on one dashboard.
