Session D3: Resilient & Reliable Energy Systems

June 26, 2025 | 3:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Uncertainty and Variability: Essential Insights for an Evolving Energy Landscape

The rise of wind, solar, distributed energy resources, electric vehicles, and home electrification is reshaping the energy sector—but with innovation comes unpredictability. Fluctuating wind speeds, shifting residential demand, and surging EV charging can upend energy planning. How do you navigate a future where uncertainty and variability are the only constants?
This dynamic session will uncover the challenges energy systems face due to the growing prevalence of uncertain and variable technologies and resources. They will discover how fluctuating wind speeds, changing residential energy usage patterns, and variable EV charging influence energy planning. This presentation will highlight research, real-world case studies, and strategies for mitigating risks and seizing opportunities in a changing energy landscape. Whether you’re an engineer, planner, investor, or policy leader, this interactive discussion will transform uncertainty from a challenge into your competitive edge.
