Track C- Decarbonization and Electrification Strategies

Session C2: Recharging the Future: Innovations in EVs and Energy Storage Solutions

June 26, 2025 | 10:30 am - 11:00 am

Learning from EV Battery Recalls: A Path to Safer Electrification

As EV adoption accelerates, ensuring the safety and reliability of high-voltage (HV) batteries remains essential. This session draws on publicly available, abridged NHTSA recall data under defined conditions as an illustrative example to explore reported failure modes and potential risk factors related to HV batteries. The discussion highlights how system-level awareness—spanning cell-to-pack architecture, manufacturing processes, and integration—may help inform risk mitigation strategies and broader safety considerations. Select innovations in battery technology will also be briefly introduced to frame the evolving landscape. While focused on EVs, the insights may extend to stationary storage and other battery applications. This session aims to promote a proactive, informed approach to battery safety and electrification efforts.
